Brighter futures for Western Downs and Moranbah communities

The funding will go toward literacy workshops for school students and meals for the disadvantaged, among a range of community activities.

Arrow CEO Cecile Wake said Brighter Futures was part of the company's overall social investment program which distributed more than $2 million in 2022 in areas including community health, education and indigenous support.

"Grass-roots organisations do a tremendous amount of good in the community, almost always on very tight budgets. Arrow's Brighter Futures program is about lending them a helping hand," Ms Wake said.

"Since we started the program in 2017, Arrow has distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in community grants and small-scale investments. Supporting the schools, charities, associations and clubs which make a real difference is a fantastic way to give something back to our host communities.

"Congratulations to this round's recipients - Chinchilla State School, Kup of Kindness, Moranbah State High School, Tony's Community Kitchen and the Western Downs Friends of the Library Association."

Chinchilla State School received $3000 to invite an Australian author to work with students as part of the Words Out West Western Downs Readers and Writers Festival. Up to 40 students will have the opportunity to attend the Brisbane Writers Festival in May.

Meanwhile, Western Downs Friends of the Library Association received $5000 to host its Words Out West School Day in Dalby, including a series of workshops and presentations for young children and school students.

Kup of Kindness will use $1000 to help deliver breakfast and other meals to those in need in Chinchilla and Miles through its mobile food trailer and soup kitchen.

Moranbah State High School's grant of $250 will go toward the Arrow Energy Brighter Futures Dux Award in 2023. The prize money is to be awarded to a Year 9 student who has excelled academically in Junior Secondary (Years 7 to 9). Arrow has sponsored the award since 2015.

Tony's Community Kitchen was granted $5000 to deliver nutritious meals and other support services to the vulnerable across the Darling Downs.

Arrow offers Brighter Future grants of up to $5000 three times per year, with Round 1 for 2023 to open in March.
