Press Release

Washington D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Lead Republican of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement ahead of next week's House Armed Services Hearing on President Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan.

"President Biden's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan was a catastrophic failure that led to the horrific and tragic deaths of 13 U.S. service members and at least 160 innocent Afghan civilians. The American people need answers on how this withdrawal went so horribly wrong and what risks to our national security this debacle has created. We intend to finally get those answers from the Biden administration at our hearing next week.

"I warned the Biden administration at a hearing back in May that the Taliban would fight until they controlled the country again. I told the Biden administration that I had significant concerns with how the withdrawal was being handled. I have repeatedly asked for a plan to avoid the very catastrophe that unfolded.

"This whole situation could have been avoided. It's up to Congress to finally get answers from the Biden administration and HASC Republicans intend to do just that."
