NSYSU embarked on student recruitment and academic exchange with Universitas Brawijaya in Indonesia, facilitating cross-border academic collaboration

(Provided by International Graduate Program of Education and Human Development) In pursuit of strengthening international academic collaboration and expanding global perspectives, a delegation from the National Sun Yat-sen University's (NSYSU) International Graduate Program of Education and Human Development (IGPEHD) recently conducted a series of significant meetings and exchange activities with Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in Indonesia. NSYSU and UB have signed a Letter of Intent for academic cooperation and laid a solid foundation for deeper cooperation between the two higher education institutions.
Led by the IGPEHD Program Chair and the Institute of Education Professor Hsueh-Hua Chuang, the NSYSU delegation included Professor Wen Cheng and Assistant Professor Yu-Hui Chang from the Center for Teacher Education, and Assistant Professor Dale Albanese, an administrative assistant, and a German doctoral student from IGPEHD to visit the UB in Malang, Indonesia. During the visit, the delegation from NSYSU held fruitful meetings with UB's President, Vice President, and Faculty deans to discuss cooperation opportunities in various areas, including international academic exchange, research collaboration, faculty exchange and visits, dual degree programs, and short-term student visits. Both parties agreed that strengthening international collaboration would facilitate knowledge sharing and academic exchange, providing broader development opportunities for students and faculty from both institutions.
To ensure the concrete realization of the cooperative intentions, NSYSU's International Graduate Program of Education and Human Development and the Institute of Education jointly signed a Letter of Intent for academic cooperation with UB's Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB). This Letter outlined specific plans for future collaboration of faculty and student exchanges, academic research, and curriculum development, laying a solid basis for further cooperation. Additionally, the delegation was invited by UB's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) to discuss the track and design of future academic cooperation with their Dean, Vice Deans, department heads, and faculty members.
In addition to high-level meetings with UB's administration, the delegation from NSYSU also conducted student recruitment activities for over 30 prospective Indonesian students interested in studying in Taiwan. During the promotional event, they introduced NSYSU's academic and research features, advantages of specific programs, available scholarships, and international exchange opportunities to UB's students and faculty. Furthermore, Florian Buelt, a German doctoral student currently studying at IGPEHD, was invited to share his experiences of the academic atmosphere and vibrant campus life at NSYSU.
During this visit to Indonesia, IGPEHD Chair Chuang was invited to serve as a keynote speaker at the International Conference on Language, Literary, and Cultural Studies (ICON LATERALS IV) organized by UB's Faculty of Cultural Studies, where she shared Taiwan's experience in English-medium instruction (EMI) in education. Chair Chuang, along with Professor Wen Cheng, Assistant Professor Yu-Hui Chang, and Assistant Professor Dale Albanese, also conducted four academic workshops to promote further academic cooperation and exchange between the two universities.
The collaboration between NSYSU and UB has strengthened through this visit but also provided valuable opportunities for students and faculty to understand Indonesian culture and broaden their international perspectives. Such international exchange activities will further enhance NSYSU's reputation on the global academic stage and offer more opportunities for growth and development for team members. We look forward to deepening our cooperation with UB in the future and embarking on a brilliant new chapter together.
