Mill Valley Unified School District Employee Arrested on Sex Charges

On April 30, 2024, Sheriff's detectives arrested Darren Smith of Fairfax for violation of PC 288, Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a Child and PC 288.5, Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child. Smith's arrest stemmed from a mandated cross report to the Sheriff's Office by the Mill Valley Unified School District on March 28th 2024, where Smith is employed as a teacher. When the district became aware of the allegations, they contacted the Sheriff's Office and placed Smith on administrative leave. Smith has been employed by the Mill Valley Unified School District since August 2013, and is currently still on administrative leave. After a thorough investigation of the allegations, including forensic interviews and evaluation of evidence, detectives developed probable cause to arrest Smith.
