Governor appoints Pres. Becerra to Science Museum board

On Sunday, March 15, Governor Youngkin appointedMarymount University President Irma Becerrato the Board of Trustees for the Science Museum of Virginia. Encouraging all Virginians to enrich their lives through science, it features a range of interactive exhibits and programs on topics such as clean energy, anatomy and innovations in STEM.

President Becerra will be the 15th member of the Science Museum's Board of Trustees and joins fellow educators, business leaders and prominent community members in providing oversight and policy guidance to the agency. The state's leader in informal STEM education, the Science Museum is headquartered in Richmond, Va., operates a satellite location in Danville, Va. and is collaborating with partners to open a science center in Northern Virginia in the coming years.

This appointment underscores the critical importance of STEM education in shaping the future of our communities and our world," President Becerra said. "By fostering curiosity, discovery and innovation, the Science Museum serves as a beacon of inspiration for learners of all ages.In my position, I am dedicated to fostering collaborations that not only advance the Science Museum's mission but also directly benefit the Marymount community. Our University's commitment to excellence in education reinforces our pivotal role in igniting a passion for STEM disciplines among all Virginians."

All appointments are subject to confirmation by Virginia's General Assembly, with members serving terms of five years.
