KEYNOTE SPEECH BY AFIOGA FIAME DR. NAOMI MATAAFA – PRIME MINISTER TO OFFICIALLY OPEN THE SAMOA NURSES ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ON 25 APRIL 2025 @ 8:30 AM AT EFKS[...]

Reverend Mose Galuvao,

Distinguished guests from the health sector,

Nurses' Association of Samoa,

It is with great honour and privilege that I stand before you today at the opening of the 69th Annual General Meeting for Nurses, under the theme "Our Nurses Our Future: The Economic Power of Care." As we gather here, we recognize the invaluable contributions of our nurses to the health and well-being of our nation.

Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system, providing compassionate care and support to individuals and families in their most vulnerable moments. They are the frontline warriors, the healers, and the advocates for health equity and social justice.

The theme of this year's AGM highlights the economic power of care, emphasizing the crucial role that nurses play in driving economic growth and development. Nurses not only contribute to the health sector but also to the broader economy through their expertise, innovation, and dedication to patient care.

In Samoa, nurses have long been at the forefront of healthcare delivery, often facing challenges with resilience and determination. From the challenges of the measles outbreak in 2019 to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, our nurses have shown unwavering commitment and professionalism in their service to the nation.

As we look to the future, it is essential to recognize the evolving role of nurses in healthcare delivery. Nurses are not just caregivers; they are

leaders, educators, and change agents. They have the power to transform our healthcare system and drive positive change in our communities.

To our nurses, I say thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and your unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of our nation. You are the heart and soul of Samoa's healthcare system, and your work does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

In closing, I urge all of us to continue to support our nurses, to invest in their training and development, and to recognize the economic value of their care. Together, we can build a healthier, more prosperous future for Samoa.

Thank you.
