For Arbor Day, Urban Forestry to give away trees

Pinellas County Urban Forestry and Landscape Services is hosting a free tree giveaway for Pinellas County residents at Eagle Lake Park from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 27, to celebrate National Arbor Day. The park is located at 1800 Keene Road, Largo.

Each household may receive up to two free trees on a first-come, first-served basis. A variety of shade, fruit and accent trees are available and may include the following:

  • Ficus carica, "Brown Turkey" fig tree (edible fruit)
  • Morus nigra, black mulberry (edible fruit)
  • Morus rubra, red mulberry (edible fruit)
  • Pinus clausa, sand pine
  • Pinus elliottii, slash pine
  • Platanus, sycamore
  • Quercus laurifolia, laurel oak
  • Taxodium distichum, bald cypress
  • Acer rubrum, red maple

April 22 is Earth Day and April 26 is National Arbor Day. Staff from Pinellas County Environmental Management and Urban Forestry & Landscape services will be presented with the County's Joint Earth Day and Arbor Day proclamation at the Board's April 23 meeting.
