Niagara University's Education Graduates Honored at Pinning Ceremony

As National Teacher Appreciation Week came to a close, Niagara University's College of Education celebrated its 86 graduating seniors during its annual pinning ceremony on May 10, 2024, in the university's Russell J. Salvatore Dining Commons.

Led by Dr. Chandra Foote, dean of the college, the students recited a teacher's oath before being introduced by Traca McKissic, director of teacher education field experience, and receiving pins from Dr. Caitlin Riegel, Dr. Donna Phillips, and Dr. Elizabeth Falzone, signifying their commitment to education.

Callie Fritz was honored with the Undergraduate Senior Award, and Ira Mylchreest received the Likely Award for Excellence in Theology during the event, which began with a welcome by Dr. Jeffrey Faunce, followed by an invocation given by Sister Nora Gatto, D.C., director of university mission and ministry.

In his remarks, Dr. Faunce urged the graduating students to reach out to former teachers and thank them, and to remember that teaching is a relationship that begins the moment they step into their classrooms.

"Kids don't care how much you know until they know how much you care," he reminded them.
