Engineering Crews Clean Sewer Overflow on City’s North Side

A sanitary sewer overflow is cleaned up and a sewer main is repaired after quick response from City Engineering crews.

The City of Madison Engineering Division received a call for standing water at 10:24 a.m., April 30, 2024, at 301 Troy Drive, State of Wisconsin Mendota Mental Institute.

The Institute hired Capitol Underground to complete a private water main repair they believed to be the source of the standing water. After visiting the site, Capitol Underground believed the ponded water was wastewater and contacted City Engineering at 10:24 a.m.

City Engineering Operations Crews arrived on scene at 11 a.m. and confirmed that the ponded water was wastewater. Engineering crews immediately began to clean the affected area with a sewer vactor truck.

City Engineering Operation Crews determined the source of wastewater was a leaking City force main sewer in need of repair.

The City then worked with the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District for wastewater control and also Capitol Underground to complete the repair.

It is part of Wisconsin State Law to report sewer blockages and overflows.

This notice is provided in compliance with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Administrative Code and the City of Madison's Capacity, Maintenance, Operations & Management (CMOM) Program.
