Josh Maples, a livestock economist with Mississippi State University, reported the average steer dressed weight during March was 923 pounds which was the highest March average on record, surpassing the March 2022 average of 914 pounds . . . The Daily Livestock Report indicated March cattle imports totaled 192,200 head, down 1.7% from last year but 5.8% above February . . . The American Farm Bureau reports that U.S. farmers held over 2.3 million crop insurance policies in 2023.
