New Brunswick Water Superintendent Clinches Top Industry Award



NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (April 14, 2024) - The accolades are flowing in!

Kouao-Eric Ekoue clinched the prestigious Meritorious Operator Award from the New Jersey Chapter of the American Water Works Association. His remarkable journey, starting as a car park attendant in Newark and culminating with this award, underscores his unwavering commitment to excellence at the New Brunswick Water Utility.

In his role as superintendent, Ekoue ensures the smooth operation of water treatment processes, serving tens of thousands of customers daily. His dedication was on full display when he swiftly responded to potential equipment damage during heavy rainfall, highlighting his commitment to community well-being.

Despite facing challenges, Ekoue, who is from the Ivory Coast, pursued education in electrical engineering while juggling various jobs to support himself and his family. His journey from the Ivory Coast to the United States reflects his resilience and determination to create a better life.

Ekoue's diligence and professionalism during his tenure as a parking attendant caught the eye of administrators at the Newark Watershed Corporation, propelling him into opportunities for advancement. From there, he ascended the ranks, eventually overseeing a team of 43 at the New Brunswick Water Utility.
