The first concrete was poured for Unit 4 of the Sanmen nuclear power plant on March 22, in East China's Zhejiang province, marking both units of the plant's second phase project - Units 3 and 4 - having started construction.

The China National Nuclear Power (CNNP) of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) holds a controlling stake in the Sanmen plant. Once the two units of its second phase are fully operational, the Sanmen plant is expected to have an installed capacity of 5 million kilowatts and generate 40 billion kilowatt hours each year, which is equivalent to reducing 30 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This will help adjust the industrial structure and energy mix in Zhejiang and support the security of East China's power grid and regional energy supply.
