Trust for Public Land Announces Appointment of Tamar Renaud as New York State Director

New York, NY - Trust for Public Land (TPL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Tamar Renaud as the New York State Director. With over 25 years of experience in championing large-scale programs to improve health and wellbeing, particularly for the most underserved communities, Renaud brings an immense amount of leadership and passion to TPL's mission of connecting all New Yorkers to the outdoors.

Diane Regas, President and CEO of Trust for Public Land, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "Tamar's extensive experience and dedication to public health make her an invaluable addition to TPL. Her leadership will play a crucial role in advancing our mission of creating parks and protecting land for people, ensuring that all communities have access to green spaces that not only foster recreation but also enhance public health and wellbeing. We recognize that safe access to nature and the outdoors is a potent public health strategy, and essential for all individuals. That's why Tamar's expertise will undoubtedly accelerate our impactful work in New York."

Tamar will work to advance park equity throughout The Empire State, including through TPL's partnerships with the City of New York, New York Public Schools, State of New York and federal agencies. In the decades of work in New York, TPL has completed nearly 800 projects and connected nearly 5.5 millionNew Yorkers to nature. In her role as TPL's New York State Director she will continue to accelerate TPL's groundbreakingCommunity Schoolyard™ initiative in New York City, which has become the modelfor the entire country. Additionally, she will lead the charge to connect Long Island with a trail stretching 200 milesfrom Montauk to Manhattan, linking 27 key communities and 26 existing parks in the process.

Prior to joining TPL, Renaud served as the Chief Operating Officer of Vital Strategies, a global nonprofit funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies. During her tenure, she spearheaded the development of Vital Strategies' inaugural strategic plan and played a pivotal role in the organization's rapid expansion and international reach. Renaud's dedication to public health has been demonstrated through her work at UNICEF, where she formulated policies and initiatives addressing HIV/AIDS among children in humanitarian crises.

At the New York City health department, Renaud led the FEMA-funded mental health response to Hurricane Sandy, showcasing her adeptness in crisis management. Renaud's commitment to social impact extends globally, as she co-founded and directed a nonprofit organization in Thailand as an Echoing Green fellow earlier in her career.

Renaud holds a bachelor's degree in environmental health from Brown University and a master's degree in public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Fluent in four languages and having been raised on three continents, Renaud's diverse background enriches her perspective on environmental conservation and community engagement. Outside of her professional endeavors, Renaud enjoys hiking and actively participates in urban greening initiatives in her neighborhood, fostering a deep connection to nature and community.

Renaud's appointment underscores TPL's ongoing commitment to fostering equitable access to nature and advancing initiatives that address pressing environmental and public health challenges. Her leadership will play a pivotal role in driving positive change across New York State.
