Wiley and Canadian Research Knowledge Network Sign Open Access Agreement

Agreement marks Wiley's first country-wide consortium in North America

HOBOKEN, N.J. - January 31, 2023 - Wiley, one of the world's largest publishers and a global leader in research and education, today announced a new two-year open access agreement with Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN), beginning on January 16, 2023.

The agreement allows 71 participating institutions access to all of Wiley's journals and grants researchers the ability to publish accepted articles open access in Wiley's hybrid journals. Through this agreement, Wiley and CRKN are advancing their shared goal to expand access to and amplify the impact of Canadian research on the global stage.

"The open access movement is truly global, and we're excited to partner with CRKN in support of our shared objectives to make an impact for scholars across the country," said Kathryn Sharples, Vice President, Open Research, Wiley.

"We are delighted to have increased the range of open access options available to Canadian researchers through this agreement with Wiley. The potential for thousands of new articles that would otherwise sit behind a paywall to be available open access is significant," commented Denise LaFitte, CSC Chair and member of the Wiley renewal sub-group. "Directed by our Licensing Principles and the guidance of the CRKN membership, we continue to advocate for the best possible terms for our members, and we are satisfied that this deal meets that goal."

Wiley has strong momentum in delivering open access agreements globally, having signed partnerships with over 2,200 institutions spanning 23 countries. Most recently, Wiley established agreements in Hong Kong, Japan, and the Czech Republic.
