What’s Next in Maternal Health? Transforming Medicaid to Combat the Maternal Health Crisis

This new issue brief from Families USA uplifts the need to reimagine Medicaid maternal health coverage in order to help address the needs of expecting mothers and work towards solving the maternal health crisis. Medicaid is uniquely situated to have a powerful impact on pregnancy outcomes and the overall health of pregnant and postpartum people. To improve outcomes for women, and in particular women of color, individual state Medicaid programs must reconsider the accessibility of Medicaid coverage, quality of such coverage, and the delivery of maternal health care, including ensuring that care is holistic, patient-centered, and equally accessible to every pregnant person covered by Medicaid.
