Public Safety Enhancements

Public safety is the top priority for the city of Las Vegas, and there are many resources and programs that can be of assistance to residents, visitors and businesses in the downtown core and throughout the city.

  • Operation S.A.F.E.R. - To prevent crime and disorder in our tourist corridors, our Department of Public Safety has implemented Operation S.A.F.E.R. (Stronger Alliance For Enforcement and Relationships). The program aims to be proactive using data, leveraging technology and building relationships that create and sustain a safe place for people to live, work and visit. Our Deputy City Marshals will work closely with businesses, residents, private security and law enforcement partners in the Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard at Sahara Avenue areas to sustain the overall improved safety and quality of life. The success of this operation will be assessed by measuring calls for service, crime, community contacts, arrests and citations. In addition, in 2023, a new substation will open in the Fremont East Entertainment District and will be jointly operated by the Department of Public Safety and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
  • Community Assistance - Dial 2-1-1 when you need help finding local services such as housing, food, utility assistance,transportation, prescription assistance, childcare and more. Dial 3-1-1 when you need a police non-emergency response such as disturbance calls to report anytypes of crime where there is no immediate threat to life or property.Dial 9-1-1 for emergency situations only. An emergency is any situation that requires immediateassistance from the police, fire department or an ambulance.
  • Neighborhood Services - To help those experiencing homelessness, we have five Multi-Agency Outreach Resource Engagement (MORETeams) that have seven-day coverage to make contact with individuals around the city. Please call 702.229.MORE, or view or homeless resources.
  • Building and Safety - We have a process for reporting dangerous buildings and our team investigates each case. Currently, the period for the demolition of an abandoned property is approximately 90-120 days.The city will work with property owners who are addressing safety issues as long as the owner keepsthe property clean, secure and safe.For a disaster/damage assessment: fire, burst pipe, car hits building, etc., please fill out this form.   • Business Licensing - Citizens may file complaints on issues of unlicensed and/or unlawful business activity.To report a problem please call 702.229.6281 or use this form.
  • Code Enforcement - We assist with neighborhood issues and code compliance to develop a safe and healthy community.For Code Enforcement during business hours (Monday-Thursday 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), please call702.229.6615. For Code Enforcement related to noise or short term rentals, please call 702.229.3500,and for concerns that happen after hours or on weekends, and that require a more immediate response,please call 702.229.6444.You can also request Code Enforcement assistance here or via SeeClickFix. Common Violations include: Noise: Outside music or excessive noise that can be heard 50 feet from the property line is inviolation of the Las Vegas Municipal Code. Parking: All vehicles associated with the residents of the short-term rental must be parked in thedriveway. Vehicles are not to block neighboring properties' driveways or community mailboxes. Trash: Refuse shall not be left out or be stored in public view, except in proper containers for thepurpose of collection.
  • Economic and Urban Development - The Visual Improvement Program offers qualifying business owners within the city's redevelopmentareas a rebate of 50 percent for the pre-approved costs involved in substantially upgrading the exteriorappearance of their establishment and bringing it up to current building and property code standards(up to a maximum of $25,000).
