BOULDER CITY, Nevada - The South Cove launch ramp is closed until further notice after a front-end loader slipped into Lake Mead while performing maintenance to reposition pipe mat on June 14.

A Lake Mead National Recreation Area employee was operating the loader when the front end began slipping into the water. The employee was able to safely evacuate the loader before it submerged. No bystanders were hurt.

The equipment is currently stuck on the courtesy dock cables under 20-30 feet of water. For everyone's safety please stay away from the area. The South Cove launch ramp will remain closed until further notice. The National Park Service is investigating the accident and working to mitigate the hazards associated with this incident.
