  • Strengthening Adamawa's dairy sector: IITA and Sebore Farms paving the way to prosperity

28 March 2024

The dairy industry has witnessed a remarkable transformation in a ground-breaking partnership between IITA -CGIAR and Sebore Farms in Adamawa State, Nigeria.

With the combined efforts of the IFAD Agrihub Project and the Innovative Youth in Agriculture Project (I-Youth), 300 youth, including women, were trained last December, and support was provided for creating and registering thirty youth-led cooperatives.

Beyond the numbers, the impact of this collaboration has equipped the cooperatives with superior breeds of cattle, improving both the quality and quantity of milk production. The collaboration fosters cooperation, strengthens the community, and promotes social sustainability among the participants.

This partnership's core is an unwavering commitment to strengthening the links between smallholder farmers and market systems. By creating the platform for a robust and efficient dairy supply chain, the initiative is increasing productivity and laying the foundation for sustainable incomes and improved livelihoods in the region.

In addition to their immense potential, the participants can apply their new skills, knowledge, and resources to drive change in their communities. IITA and Sebore Farms are improving the dairy industry and contributing to the region's socio-economic development by fostering innovation, facilitating capacity building, and promoting market linkages.

Subsequently, this opportunity will be extended to more young people across Adamawa. The initiative remains committed to nurturing a new generation of dairy entrepreneurs whose collective efforts represent a significant step towards a brighter future for the state.
