BLM announces next steps in consideration of Mosey Solar Project
LAS VEGAS- The Bureau of Land Management announced next steps in its consideration of the proposed Mosey Solar Project, a planned 500-megawatt installation in Clark and Nye counties. The BLM will segregate the roughly 5,000 acres under consideration for two years, allowing for the timely consideration of Mosey Solar's application while ensuring the orderly administration of BLM-managed public lands.
"The BLM actively supports the Biden-Harris administration's goal of permitting 25 gigawatts of renewable energy on public lands by 2025," said Nicholas Pay, Field Manager of the Pahrump Field Office. "This segregation will ensure that the evaluation and potential development of the renewable energy proposal is not hindered by incompatible land use proposals or filings during the application review process."
The Mosey Solar Project temporary segregation includes approximately 5,281.41 acres of public lands managed by BLM's Pahrump and Las Vegas Field Offices. The lands are in Clark and Nye Counties in the Pahrump Valley, approximately two miles southeast of Pahrump and 40 miles west of Las Vegas. State Route 160 is less than two miles northeast of the site.
The Notice of Segregation will remove the identified lands for two years from appropriation under the public land laws, including location under the Mining Law, subject to valid existing rights, but not the Mineral Leasing Act or the Materials Act. The segregation for the lands identified in the notice is effective today.
The BLM manages vast stretches of public lands with the potential to make significant contributions to the nation's renewable energy portfolio and provides sites for environmentally sound renewable energy projects. The efficient deployment of renewable energy from our nation's public lands is crucial in achieving the Biden-Harris administration's goal of a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035, as well as Congress' direction in the Energy Act of 2020 to permit 25 gigawatts of solar, wind, and geothermal production on public lands no later than 2025.
