August 2021 Spotlight: Dr. Monique Hosley-Hyman

Why would you encourage someone in the community to apply to be on a board, committee, or commission?

I would encourage the citizens of Durham to become involved and apply to be a member of a board, committee, or commission to offer their expertise as servant leaders. My involvement in several boards during my tenure of residing in Durham has been very rewarding. I have engaged in being a change agent for the Durham community.

What do you enjoy most about serving on your particular board?

I enjoy networking with other like-minded individuals who have the honor and passion of having a seat behind the wheel of a major organization in the Durham Community. In addition, I am able to be a voice in the community to impact change.

What is your favorite part about living in Durham?

As an educator at North Carolina Central University Department of Social Work, I love the fact that Durham is known for its technology and scholarly institutions. Durham also has many people who love arts, culture and is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country.
