Port Augusta City Council supports the recent policing operation, Operation City Safe - Port Augusta, initiated by the South Australia Police (SAPOL).

The enhanced Operation City Safe - Port Augusta commenced on May 25, 2023, and has seen the deployment of additional police officers, as well as the utilisation of specialised units such as Dog and Mounted Operations Units, PolAir, and the Licensing Enforcement Branch. The increase in resourcing aims to act as a short-term circuit breaker, providing further relief to victims of crime and addressing anti-social behaviour.

"Considering the current level of anti-social behaviour in Port Augusta, SAPOL has taken the initiative to conduct this policing operation with a strong focus on crime prevention and public safety. I fully support their decision and believe that the additional resources allocated to our local police force will significantly contribute to the reduction of reported crime and anti-social behaviour." Mayor
Linley Shine stated.

"The success of Operation City Safe relies heavily on community engagement and partnerships with key stakeholders. I am pleased that the Commissioner of Police, Grant Stevens, and Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott have actively participated in recent community forums in Port Augusta, seeking community feedback and separately meeting with myself and the CEO. It is crucial for the community to have a voice and actively contribute to the ongoing efforts to maintain public safety." Mayor Linley Shine stated.

Operation City Safe - Port Augusta relies on the engagement and partnership with community and other key stakeholders.

SAPOL are working in partnership with other key agencies and community to address the safety and wellbeing of the Port Augusta community, including children and young people. "It is important to note that while Operation City Safe is an effective short-term solution, it alone will not provide a long-term resolution to crime and anti-social behaviour in Port Augusta. Sustainable outcomes and lasting improvements require ongoing collaboration with the community and other agencies. The medium to long-term solutions will be developed through a collective effort to ensure positive and sustainable outcomes." CEO John Banks stated.
