The New York Times won at the 45th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards this week.
The Opinion Video "Meet the World's Most Honorable Bank Robbers" won Outstanding News Discussion & Analysis: Editorial and Opinion. This is the fourth consecutive year that Times Opinion has won in this category. The nine-minute film features ordinary Lebanese citizens involved in a wave of armed bank robberies seeking to retrieve their life savings amid Lebanon's economic meltdown. The film explores themes of corruption and morality, as the robbers argue that their country was indeed robbed by an elite political class.
The film was made by freelance producers Zach Goldbaum and Todd Bieber, and commissioned and senior produced by Adam Ellick and Jonah Kessel of Times Opinion.
"Thank you to the Emmys for this recognition. It's a privilege to work with such talented journalists and experts who consistently produce powerful projects in video. Todd, Zach and the Times Opinion team's incredible work on this video is testament to the signature storytelling we do and the talented people behind it," said Kathleen Kingsbury, head of Opinion at The New York Times.
In total, The Times earned 13 Emmy Award nominations this year. See a full list of winners and nominees here.
