Annapolis District RCMP arrest man following flight from police

On May 4, at approximately 4:50 p.m., an Annapolis District RCMP officer observed a white Ford F150 travelling on Hwy. 201 at 93 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. The officer activated emergency lights and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver of the Ford failed to stop and turned onto Torbrook Rd., out of sight of the officer. A witness reported that the driver of the truck then began to illegally pass a black Honda Civic when it struck a transit bus and then a telephone pole.

The driver and sole occupant of the Ford, a 32-year-old Kentville man, was arrested without incident. He was later transported by EHS to the hospital with minor injuries.

Two dogs were found inside the truck. One of the dogs was deceased; RCMP officers rushed the other dog to a local veterinary clinic, where the dog later died.

The driver of the transit bus, a 74-year-old-man from Bridgetown, suffered minor injuries. The only passenger on the bus was uninjured.

Hwy. 201 near Torbrook Rd. was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision analyst attended the scene.

The Kentville man was later released and will appear in court at a later date. He faces charges of Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm, Driving while Prohibited and Flight from Peace Officer.
