Usina Coruripe optimizes processes to make the production chain more strategic and functional

The supply sector of a company, whatever its size, is a determining and strategic factor for the success of the business. Thus, qualified teams with aligned information at hand and complete visibility of projects and the supply chain, expenses and services differentiate organizations in the market.

Usina Coruripe, one of the largest companies in the sugar-energy sector in the country, has expanded investments in the strategic development of the supply management area. Over the past seven months, 30 company employees participated in a series of online training courses on Spend Analysis, Finance for Purchasing, Strategic Purchasing Matrix and Strategic Sourcing. During this period, the team perfected skills in technically evaluating aspects ranging from formulating the strategy to measuring results, including contract management, quality and deadlines; all this with the aim of identifying what best qualifies in terms of "cost, risk and benefit".

According to the executive manager of Supplies at Coruripe, Érico V. do Lago Afonso, Strategic Sourcing is a purchasing management approach that seeks to strategically optimize the acquisition of materials and services, considering not only the price, but also the quality, supplier reliability, capacity for innovation, among other factors. "The importance of this for the company's Procurement area is the creation of a well-defined purchasing strategy focused on reducing costs and increasing the quality of products or services purchased. In addition, this approach allows better management of relationships with suppliers and the search for new strategic partners that can contribute to improving the production processes and results of our company", he says.

After several stages of technical knowledge, the team participated in mentoring sessions to put into practice what was seen in the classroom. The training track ended with the presentation of negotiation strategies for more than 10 categories relevant to Usina Coruripe's business. Another positive point of the training was the possibility of including employees from all areas of Procurement: Contract Management, Strategic Procurement, Materials Management and Warehouse, in joint learning. With this, everyone was able to delve deeper into the work as a whole, and learn about other stages of the procedures. "It was extremely satisfying to see how the team was engaged and committed to the training, showing a genuine interest in learning and applying the concepts learned", evaluates Érico Afonso.

New supplier evaluation platform was implemented

Usina Coruripe also recently implemented an advanced supplier approval model, strengthening its commercial relationships and improving risk management in its supply chain. The new platform provides greater security, transparency and agility in the selection, evaluation and approval of suppliers, ensuring that all technical criteria and required requirements are met.

The supplier approval platform is the result of extensive benchmarking work, research on market options and reading the needs of the internal public. With the aim of making the new process even more robust, the company created a committee composed of representatives from critical areas, such as Sustainability (Environment), Compliance and Procurement. This committee is responsible for meticulously analyzing the information collected by the platform and verifying that suppliers meet the strict technical criteria established by the respective areas, in order to compose the company's supplier matrix.

Usina Coruripe has a solid commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. The new supplier approval platform reinforces these values by carefully considering aspects related to the environment, sustainability and legal compliance. Through the implementation of this new model, the company seeks to ensure that its business partners are aligned with its strategic guidelines and ethical standards, contributing to a sustainable and responsible value chain.

"The implementation of the new supplier approval model is an important milestone for Usina Coruripe", says Érico V L Afonso, Executive Manager of Supplies. "With this initiative, we strengthen our commercial relationships, ensuring that we only work with suppliers that meet the required technical criteria and that share our values. In addition, the platform offers us a comprehensive and integrated view of all our suppliers, allowing most efficient of the associated risks."

Usina Coruripe stands out in the market for the quality of its products and commitment to sustainability. The new supplier approval platform reinforces the company's position as a responsible organization committed to excellence in all stages of its production chain. The company's president, Mario Lorencatto, reinforces the importance of having suppliers aligned with the company's values. "Much more than competitive values, our suppliers need to be aligned with our purposes and principles of generating value to society. For this, it is essential to have processes and strategic criteria to choose the best partners", he declares.
