Press release: 12.639-230/21

Vienna,2021-10-21 - More than two in five of the approximately 593 000 pupils in school year 2021/22 age 12 and older have an upright vaccination against COVID-19 as of 30 September 2021. Another 6% had received partial vaccination by that date. The proportion of 20- to 64-year-old teachers with full immunisation coverage is 84% compared to 71% for the entire labour force. "Fully immunised" means people who have received all of the vaccine doses necessary for full immunisation, as well as those who have recovered with at least one vaccination. Statistics Austria determined the results of the vaccination status of the pupils for the first time on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. The basis is data from the school statistics and the Austrian National Vaccination Register as of 30. September 2021 as well as the preliminary population status as of 1 July 2021.

"By the end of September, 43% of pupils across Austria had already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Vaccination coverage increases with age at school: Around 22% of 12-year-olds were fully immunised at the end of September, and among 18-year-olds, 60% had full vaccination protection," says Tobias Thomas, Director General of Statistics Austria.
