Man Arrested For Drunkenness In Public Places Causing Annoyance

The Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of drunkenness in public places causing annoyance.

On 3 May 2024 at about 4.20am, the Police received a call for assistance from an Auxiliary Police Force (APF) informing that a man had clung on to the rear of their armoured vehicle while they were travelling along Stamford Road.

Investigations revealed that on 3 May 2024 at about 3am, the APF officers were loading cash cartridges into the armoured vehicle along Queen Street when the man who appeared to be intoxicated, wanted to enter the vehicle. The officers told the man to leave the place and they drove off the vehicle.

While the officers were travelling along Stamford Road, they discovered the man was clinging on to the rear vehicle door for about 850 meters between Victoria Street and Stamford Road. The officers alighted from the vehicle and the man immediately stepped down from the vehicle and walked away.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Central Police Division arrested the man along Stamford Road within two hours of the report.

The man will be charged in court on 4 May 2024 for the offence of Drunkenness in public places causing annoyance under Section 14(2) of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015 which carries a fine of up to $1,000 or an imprisonment for a term of up to 6 months or with both.
