Street maintenance operations scheduled for North Garth Avenue and Proctor Drive Nov. 29-Dec. 3

(COLUMBIA, MO)- Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 29, Capital Paving, contractor for the City of Columbia Public Works department, will be performing mill and overlay pavement maintenance operations on two City streets. Pavement maintenance work will be performed on North Garth Avenue between Business Loop 70 West and Interstate 70. Work will also be performed on Proctor Drive starting at Bear Creek Drive and extending approximately 1,200 feet toward Proctor Park.

Mill and overlay pavement maintenance is a two-part process which first involves using heavy equipment to mill off and remove the surface of the street and place it into dump trucks. Later, as part of the overlay process, crews lay new asphalt onto the street. Once asphalt has been overlaid, it can be driven on almost immediately. However, drivers are asked to watch for and respect requests from flaggers as street workers put their final touches on the road, such as smoothing the surface out with heavy road rollers.

'No parking' signs have now been posted to Proctor Drive. Please refrain from parking your vehicle on Proctor Drive on the dates listed on the sign. Milling work on Proctor Drive will not begin until the signs have been in place for at least 24 hours. Crews will begin work Nov. 29 milling North Garth Avenue. After completion, crews will shift operations to Proctor Drive immediately afterward.

Milling operations will be complete on Nov. 29, weather permitting. North Garth Avenue and Proctor Drive are scheduled to be overlaid with new asphalt Dec. 2 through 3. 'No parking' signs will again be posted on Proctor Drive 24 hours prior to asphalt overlay operations. Please refrain from parking your vehicle on Proctor Drive Dec. 2 through 3 as well.

At least one lane of North Garth Avenue and Proctor Drive will remain open to traffic in both directions at all times during pavement maintenance operations. Signs and flaggers will be present to direct traffic through the closure area. Motorists and pedestrians should drive slowly and exercise caution in areas where crews are working.

The speed humps recently installed on Proctor Drive will not be affected by this pavement maintenance work.

All pavement maintenance operations are scheduled to be completed by Dec. 3, weather permitting.
