March Weekend Closures coming at I-285/I-20 East Interchange Project

DECATUR, GA - The Georgia Department of Transportation and its construction partners will implement multiple lane closures on I-20 westbound and I-285 northbound to complete paving operations as I-285/I-20 East Interchange project progress continues. Weather permitting, construction work will be performed on the ramp from I-20 westbound to I-285 northbound, as well as I-20 westbound and I-285 northbound mainline lanes.

The scheduled Saturday, March 2 closures are as follows:

  • I-20 westbound between Wesley Chapel Road, Mile Marker (MM) 68 and the I-20/I-285 Interchange (MM 67):
    • 6 a.m. until 1 p.m., two left lanes will be closed. Both ramp lanes from I-20 westbound to I-285 northbound will remain open during this time.
    • 1 p.m. until 6 p.m., the two right lanes of I-20 westbound will be closed. A single lane closure will also be installed on the ramp from I-20 westbound to I-285 northbound.
    • 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. Sunday, March 3, one lane will be closed on I-20 westbound between Wesley Chapel Road and the interchange
In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances this work may continue on Sunday, March 3 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Completing this phase of construction work in a single weekend allows crews to continue work on the improved ramp configurations and retaining walls for the new bridge from Wesley Chapel Road, significant elements of the improvements coming to the area.

Heavy congestion is anticipated during this period, and motorists should use their preferred navigation apps to seek alternate routes. For the safety of all, motorists are advised to exercise caution, reduce speed while traveling through work zones, and watch for workers.
Advisory: Exact construction dates and times may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Pay attention and watch for workers. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit or download the Georgia 511 app.
