Elder Carlos A. Godoy to speak at fall commencement

REXBURG, Idaho - Elder Carlos A Godoy, General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, will address 2,891 graduates at Brigham Young University-Idaho's 2023 Fall Semester Commencement on Thursday, December 14, 2023. The live event will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the BYU-Idaho Center and streamed live at byui.edu/live/video.

The university will award 2,177 bachelor's degrees and 797 associate degrees. Of the graduates, 1,715 are women, and 1,176 are men. Campus-based students make up 1,761 of this semester's graduates, while 1,129 of the graduates are online students, and 1,208 of those graduating started their college career as BYU-Pathway Worldwide students.

Elder Carlos A. Godoy was sustained as a General Authority Seventy on April 5, 2008. Prior to his call, Elder Godoy served as an Area Seventy in the Brazil. Since joining the Church in 1977, Elder Godoy has served in numerous Church callings, including full-time missionary in the Brazil São Paulo South Mission, elders quorum president, missionary training center branch president, bishop, high councilor, president of the Brazil Belém Mission and Area Seventy.

Carlos Augusto Godoy was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on February 4, 1961. He married Mônica Soares Brandao in 1984. They are the parents of four children. Elder Godoy received a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Pontifícia Universidade Católica in 1987. In 1994 he received a master's degree in organizational behavior from Brigham Young University. Elder Godoy has worked in senior management positions at Johnson & Johnson, United Technologies-Otis Brazil Elevator, and Dow Corning South America. In 2004 he started his own consulting company, CHANGE Consult-Organizational Development, specializing in organizational changes and restructuring.

Commencement is a ticketed event, as seating will be limited. Tickets will become available beginning Monday, December 4, at byui.edu/tickets or the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office inside the University Store.
