The University of Toledo is extending its enrollment deposit deadline for new students to allow families more time to receive their financial aid information before making a final college selection.

The priority enrollment deposit deadline for the 2024-25 academic year is now June 1, 2024. The original deadline was May 1.

UToledo is extending its enrollment deposit deadline to June 1, 2024, for new students to allow families more time to receive their financial aid information before making a final college selection.

With the significant updates to the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA, the U.S. Department of Education is working through processing delays. The application for 2024-25 was not available for families until January and the processing of those applications is expected to be delayed until later in March, which means that universities like UToledo will not be in a position to send financial aid offer notifications until May.

"We want to give our families time to make decisions with the most complete information possible, including financial aid," said Gina Roberts, assistant vice president of enrollment management. "We will continue to work with students and families to answer their questions and send their financial aid offers as soon as possible."

The FAFSA determines eligibility for need-based financial aid and is needed to qualify for federal financial aid, including Pell Grants, loans and work-study, as well as some UToledo scholarships.

UToledo has been communicating with prospective students and current Rockets throughout the rollout process for the new FAFSA and updating regularly the FAFSA changes on the Office of Student Financial Aid website. Students have been encouraged to submit their FAFSA as soon as possible to receive maximum aid consideration.

Students admitted to UToledo who are eligible have already received their merit award offers from the University.

The processing delays for the FAFSA should not impact current students having their financial aid information in time for the fall 2024 semester, however, it is likely that students enrolled for summer courses may not have their financial aid awards in advance of the e-statements for summer 2024 semester.

UToledo is committed to working with students and families to apply their financial aid quickly and will be as flexible as possible for those who need additional assistance paying summer tuition bills by the due date.
