Business community plays important role in the implementation of green economy and sustainable growth
(MPI) - The 2023 Vietnam Business Forum (VBF), an annual forum co-organised by the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), the World Bank (WB), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), kicked of its technical session in Hanoi on March 17. It serves as a policy dialogue channel between the Government of Vietnam and business community towards a favorable business environment.

In her opening speech, MPI Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc said over the past 25 years, VBF has always adhered to the goal and mission of acting as a bridge between the Vietnamese Government agencies and business community.

Through the forum, the business community has provided feedback and recommendations to improve the business and investment climate and promote sustainable socio-economic development, while continuously renewing their vision and operation methods to enhance its effectiveness, towards paying more attention to social responsibility.

With the theme of "Business community in partnership with Government of Vietnam in fostering green growth", Vietnam always attaches importance to green growth and sustainable development, the official said.

The MPI had advised the Government to issue the National Green Growth Strategy for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 and the national action plan. These aim to promote economic restructuring associated with growth model innovation, and achieve economic prosperity, environmental sustainability and social equality towards the targets of green economy, carbon neutrality and global warming fight.

Stressing that green economy is an inevitable trend and an important growth driver in long-term, the deputy minister said Vietnam has actively implemented a roadmap to amend the legal framework in order to mobilise green finance and technology, promote green production and investment and encourage the green transition towards a circular and low-carbon emission economy. "The Government of Vietnam identifies the business community as a crucial role in the implementation", said Deputy Minister Ngoc.

Soren Roed Pedersen, VBF co-chair stressed that the forum has served as policy dialogue channel between the Government of Vietnam and business community for the past 25 years to address challenges and difficulties, and build a favourable business investment environment, thus contributing to Vietnam's sustainable economic growth.

"With the theme of the forum this year, we understand that green growth is a necessary driver for long-path development that will meet many challenges and obstacles. We hope that the Government agencies will consider the best support to help businesses expand operation and access to suitable resources," said Pederson.

During the forum's technical session, eleven working groups of: Power and Energy; Environment; Agribusiness; Investment and Trade; Digital Economy; Infrastructure; Tax and Customs; Education and Training; Human Resources; Tourism; Mining reported on various topics related to preparation for energy transition period and circular economy and sustainable development, and competitiveness in new circumstances./.
