Ningbo orchid crab has become a 'potential stock' in the aquaculture ind...

"What is the survival rate of orchid crab farming?" and "Is it good to sell after growing?" The morning before yesterday, at the promotion and seminar on the cultivation of far-sea pike crab (orchid crab) held in Xiangshan, aquaculture practitioners from all over the country asked questions to on-site experts online or offline.

It was learned from the meeting that according to last year's trial culture, the yield of orchid crabs per mu can reach 60 kg, and the average breeding benefit per mu can reach 7,000 yuan.

Orchid crab is a warm-water crab that lives in deep sandy or sedimentary waters, and is mainly distributed in coastal areas such as Fujian, Guangdong, and Guangxi in China.

Previously, due to the lack of seedlings and breeding technology, orchid crabs mainly relied on natural fishing. Last year, under the joint research team of Ningbo University and Ningbo Dasheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd., orchid crab achieved a double breakthrough in factory-scale seedling breeding and pond farming.

The potential of orchid crab farming is favored by the industry.

First of all, orchid crabs are better for farmers.

Last year, Zhan Tiankui, a farmer in Ninghai, successfully tried to raise orchid crabs in a 30-acre sea pond using shrimp, crab and shellfish polyculture. "The breeding conditions of the outer sea ponds are relatively more complex, and uncontrollable factors such as salinity, water quality, temperature and ecological environment have increased. Ren Zhiming, a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Oceanography of Ningbo University, said that the case of Zhan Tiankui's successful breeding of orchid crabs shows that orchid crabs have a strong adaptability to the growth environment, and it is very feasible to breed them in many coastal provinces in the country in the future.

Secondly, orchid crab is a good commodity.

The experiment of Ren Zhiming's team showed that the survival rate of 150 kg of orchid crabs in a bundled state was more than 98% after being temporarily raised in a cement pond of 28 square meters for 2 months.

"This shows that orchid crabs have stronger liquidity in the market, which is convenient for transportation and storage. Han Shengming, head of Ningbo Dasheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd., revealed that the listing time of orchid crabs is generally from mid-November to December, and if it can be temporarily raised until the Spring Festival before the market, farmers will obtain greater economic benefits.
