President of the European Council Charles Michel met with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov

New York, 18 September 2023- On the margins of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President of the European Council Charles Michel met with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

In 2023, the European Union and Turkmenistancelebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations.The meeting providedtherefore a good occasion to sum up common achievements in these relations and to reflect on the future cooperation, both bilateral and within the framework of the "European Union - Central Asia" Dialogue.

The European Union has long been a reliable partner of Turkmenistan, providing opportunities forparticipationin numerous specialised projects and programmes aimed at addressing key priorities in the country's economic and social development. These encompass areas such as economic development, review of legislation, education, agriculture, water management, environment protection and climate change.

The dialogue between the two leaders was marked by an eager exchange of ideas regardingthe future prospects for cooperation, taking into account the existing diverse potential.
