MDIFW NEWS: Massachusetts Teenager Injured In Snowmobile Crash

EUSTIS, Maine - A Massachusetts teenager was seriously injured in a snowmobile crash in Eustis yesterday morning. At approximately 11:30 a.m. yesterday, a group of eight snowmobilers were traveling east on the Tim Pond Snowmobile Trail towards Eustis. The initial investigation indicates that the group was stopping, and as they were stopping, five of the snowmobiles crashed into each other. The 17-year-old Massachusetts teen was driving a Yamaha SXV Viper, and when he stopped, he was struck from behind by another snowmobile, and suffered several fractures in his back. Due to the remote area where the crash occurred, the teen had to be transported by a snowmobile rescue sled over 12 miles to an awaiting ambulance, and then he was transported to MaineHealth Franklin Hospital in Farmington. Two adults also were injured in the pileup, but they were not transported. The Eustis Fire Department, Rangeley Fire Department, and NorthStar EMS assisted with the crash. The incident remains under investigation. This release will be updated if any new information becomes available.
