Children Get a Head Start, Thanks to Moreno Valley Public Library

Children and their parents are getting an important head start on their reading-and their future academic success-thanks to a partnership between Moreno Valley Public Library and the 1000 Books Foundation. Moreno Valley Public Library is making it easier than ever to participate in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten®, a fun challenge, established by the 1000 Books Foundation. The challenge is designed to promote reading in the earliest stages of childhood, as well as strengthen the parent-child bond through reading.

During Moreno Valley Public Library's annual Día del Niños y del Libros celebration on April 27th at the Iris Plaza Branch, the Library officially launched 1000 Books Before Kindergarten® as a new reading challenge. Early exposure to reading can increase vocabulary, introduce new concepts in a fun way, and foster a love for reading and learning. Readers can participate in ongoing or seasonal reading challenges in person at their local Moreno Valley Public Library branch in person or online.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten® lays out a plan for parents to read a thousand books with their children before they enter kindergarten, giving each child a valuable boost in reading and learning. Moreno Valley Public Library offers convenient access to resources, tracking, and incentives for the challenge, both in person and online via the library's reading challenge website at: moval.beanstack.com. The Moreno Valley Friends of the Library support this challenge and other library programs through book sales at the Book Nook store at the Main Library.
