World of Cultures 2023

Welcome to World of Cultures, a 21-day multicultural festival celebrating the vibrancy of Tāmaki Makaurau and its people.

Enjoy more than 70 free or low-cost activities and events across the region.

Attend a sushi or dumpling-making class, shop at a French market, view a kubuni (African comics) exhibition, learn about Filipino eating practices, or get along to a Kathak dance workshop.

Don't miss some of our bigger one-day events:

• Celebrating Cultures in Howick (25 March) offers dance, food, stalls, and workshops.
• If you're in New Lynn, visit Whau Cultural Celebration (25 March) for cultural performances and more.
• Sit and weave with the Kiribati Mamas at NZ Maritime Museum's Moana Oceania open day (25 March).
• For a fantastic one-day, not-to-be-missed event, head to Mt Roskill War Memorial Park's annual CultureFest (2 April). Experience colourful performances, cultural music and dance (traditional and contemporary), enlightening discussion and delicious food from Ethiopian to Indian, Thai, Malay, Chilean, Eritrean, Slovakian, Afghani, Māori, Pasifika and more. Over 50 communities and cultures come together in one place.

For more family fun, celebrate what unites us at FootballFest as you cheer on teams representing nations from across the globe. Bring whānau and friends to join our first Play Festival at Tuna Mau / Western Park, where tamariki can try traditional games from Māori, Pasifika, Asian, African and European culture groups.

World of Cultures starts on 21 March - coinciding with Race Relations Day and giving us the opportunity to reflect on what binds us, what makes us different and to take a united stand against racism.
