Budget discussions will dominate City Council meetings on Wednesday

April 22, 2024 - The budget will be the main topic at City Council's Wednesday meetings, from the afternoon work session to several public hearings scheduled for the evening meeting. The 6 p.m. Spotlight will focus on some key volunteers at the Hampton History Museum.

Wednesday afternoon briefing and discussions, beginning at 1 p.m., will include:

  • A briefing on the Hampton City Schools budget.
  • A briefing on a request to increase the service district tax for Elizabeth Lakes.
  • Council discussion of the City Manager's Recommended Budget.

In the evening meeting at 6:30, the Finance Committee will provide an analysis of the proposed real estate tax rate based on the city's revenue guidelines. Public hearings include:

  • Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2025-2029.
  • Annual action plan for two federal programs: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program.
  • Hearing on the property tax rate.
  • Comments on the proposed FY25 budget.

The 1 p.m., 6 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. City Council meetings are open to the public and held in Council Chambers on the eighth floor of City Hall, 22 Lincoln St. See the agendas. The meetings will be broadcast on the city's channel at Cox 47 and Verizon 22. They will also be streamed at hampton.gov/tv.
