SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - The Shepherd University Agricultural Innovation Center at Tabler Farm is looking for volunteers to help plant trees for a native food forest on Monday, May 6, from noon-4 p.m.

The farm is receiving 1,000 trees through a partnership with the agroforestry non-profit, Contour Lines, Inc., an organization that provides grants in the form of free trees and technical assistance in exchange for project recipients implementing certain soil conservation practices.

A food forest is intentionally planted with species that have edible components for humans.

"The Tabler Farm food forest will also only contain trees native to the Appalachian region, making it even more unique," said Madison Hale, farm manager. "We will be planting chestnut trees at this event."
