The history of the Service Civil International (SCI) began back in 1924, when numerous avalanches devastated several regions of the Alps. Pierre Cérésole, pacifist, conscientious objector and founder of what would later become the ICS, then had the idea of demonstrating the importance and extreme interest of a civil service for conscientious objectors by helping the affected populations.
One hundred years have passed since the foundation of this non-governmental organisation, but the importance of talking about peace has remained more than relevant, even at school. It is a complex and sometimes difficult exercise, which is nevertheless necessary, and which through the effort of confrontation and exchange of ideas, must lead to a broad reflection on key concepts such as service, commitment, freedom, tolerance and respect.
