LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass today congratulated Her Excellency Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo on her inauguration as the first-ever female President of Mexico. The leaders met in Los Angeles last yearand today, Mayor Bass attended the historic swearing-in ceremony in Mexico City alongside leaders from California and across the globe.
"Today President Sheinbaum made history as Mexico's first-ever female President, and I was honored to witness her take the oath of office. President Sheinbaum has been a true leader in Mexico, as a professor and climate scientist, a Nobel laureate, as the mayor of Mexico City, and now in the country's highest office. About a year ago, I had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Sheinbaum in Los Angeles, where we spoke about the strong relationship between Los Angeles and Mexico and our shared priorities, including support for L.A.'s Mexican-American population, the largest outside Mexico.
"Congratulations President Sheinbaum, and I look forward to our continued partnership as we continue to create safer and more equitable communities for those we serve, and to seeing all you will do for the people of Mexico."
