SHOOTING INVESTIGATION – SOUTH STREET AND PARAMOUNT BOULEVARD
LBPD detectives are investigating a hit shooting that occurred on May 4, 2024 in the area of South Street and Paramount Boulevard, which resulted in seven victims sustaining injuries.
At approximately 11:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located multiple victims, and immediately began rendering medical aid. In total, there were seven reported victims; some were transported to local hospitals by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, others transported themselves to the hospital.
All of the victims are male adults. Three sustained non-life-threatening injuries; four were in critical but stable condition.
Homicide and Gang Detectives responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates at least two male suspects fired shots towards a group of people. The suspects fled the area immediately after the shooting.
While this remains an active investigation, at this time, detectives believe this incident to be gang-related.
"This police department is dedicated and focused on arresting any violent offender utilizing dangerous firearms to victimize our community," said Chief of Police Wally Hebeish. "The Long Beach Police Department has been actively investigating this shooting since late last night, and we will continue working until we identify and arrest those involved in this unacceptable act of gun violence."
Detectives are in the process of interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and reviewing security camera footage of the incident to further the ongoing investigation.
In response to this incident, we will have additional patrol officers and our Neighborhood Safety Bike Team in the area to engage with community members as well as identify additional witnesses and leads.
