Congressman Hoyer Announces Bowie State University President Dr. Aminta H. Breaux as His State of the Union Guest

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) announced that he will bring Dr. Aminta H. Breaux, President of Bowie State University (BSU) as his guest to tonight's State of the Union:

"I am honored to have Bowie State University (BSU) President Aminta Breaux as my guest to President Biden's State of the Union address tonight. She has long been a crucial leader in our community, a tremendous partner in serving Maryland's Fifth District, and a dear personal friend. As Maryland's oldest historically Black university and one of our state's finest education institutions, BSU is an invaluable resource for Maryland and the entire country. Its students play an integral role in building a stronger, more prosperous America - from supporting cutting-edge STEM research to combatting our nation's mental health crisis to pushing for greater inclusion for all Americans regardless of their race and sexual orientation. I greatly admire how President Breaux has led BSU ever since she became its tenth president in 2017. After a string of bomb threats against BSU and other HBCUs across the country in 2022, I worked closely with her and the U.S. Bomb Technicians Association to develop better strategies to protect schools from these threats. We've worked together on numerous other initiatives over the years to create new opportunities for BSU and its students," said Congressman Hoyer.

"Tonight, President Breaux and I will listen to President Biden speak about how his administration and Congressional Democrats continue to advance our transformational Investing in America agenda. That includes investing in HBCUs like BSU and other higher education institutions for historically underserved communities in America. I am pleased to work with President Breaux to help the students at BSU - and all Marylanders - get ahead, and I am excited to have her join me in the Capitol tonight," continued Congressman Hoyer.

"I am extremely honored to attend the State of the Union address as a special guest of Congressman Hoyer," said Bowie State University President Aminta Breaux. "He has always been a fervent supporter of the university and our programs to prepare the next generation of leaders to meet the challenges of our nation. I look forward to being at the Capitol for tonight's speech and the ongoing commitment the Congressman and I share in ensuring HBCU students receive a high-quality education."
