The Country Doctor Museum, located at 7089 Peele Road in Bailey and managed by East Carolina University's Laupus Health Sciences Library, is hosting a mobile mammography unit event April 9 for women 35 years and older in conjunction with Cancer Services of Eastern North Carolina.

Pre-registration is required by April 2 at the Invision Diagnostics website. The event offers 3D breast cancer screenings from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"I invite and encourage women who are in need of a mammogram to register for the screening event to be held at the museum on April 9," said Annie Anderson, director and curator of the Country Doctor Museum. "Early detection of breast cancer is very important, so that women can have care and treatment options. I am excited to work with Cancer Services of Eastern North Carolina to offer these screenings to our community and impact women's health in a positive way."

Women are eligible with or without an active health insurance plan. Grant funding is available through Cancer Services of Eastern North Carolina for women without insurance. For registration help, call the County Doctor Museum at 252-235-4165.

Created in 1967, the Country Doctor Museum is the oldest museum in the United States dedicated to the history of America's rural health care.

The museum honors the work of rural health care providers by collecting, preserving and interpreting medical artifacts that date primarily from the mid 19th century through the early 20th century.

Breast cancer is the second-most diagnosed cancer in the country. Cancer Services of Eastern North Carolina has partnered with Invision Diagnostics to provide these breast cancer screenings.
