Dr. Glenn Lipscomb was selected as UToledo's 2023-24 Mid-American Conference Outstanding Faculty Award for Student Success, the Office of the Provost announced.

Lipscomb, who joined UToledo in 1994, is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the College of Engineering.

Dr. Glenn Lipscomb, a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, was selected as UToledo's 2023-24 MAC Outstanding Faculty Award for Student Success.

Now in its fifth year, the Outstanding Faculty Award for Student Success recognizes one full-time faculty member from each Mid-American Conference institution who supports and develops students inside and outside of the classroom.

"I was floored when I learned about the award because my goal as an instructor is to see students achieve their life goals," Lipscomb said. "I strive to get to know each student and promote a growth mindset. Understanding pressures outside the classroom and working with students to balance their time demands is so important."

Progressing through the ranks to become a professor and chairing the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering from 2004 to 2019, Lipscomb has left an indelible mark on his students, the campus and the local community, said Dr. Scott Molitor, interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

"For 30 years, Dr. Lipscomb has been the personification of dedication to our students and their success - inside and outside of the classroom," Molitor said. "The Mid-American Conference Outstanding Faculty Award for Student Success is the latest recognition of Dr. Lipscomb's commitment as teacher and mentor, and we're proud to see him receive this award."

Lipscomb earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Missouri at Rolla and his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, and has been a vibrant presence at The University of Toledo since joining as an assistant professor in 1994, specializing in biofuels production and membrane separation science and technology.

In 2013, Lipscomb received UToledo's Outstanding Teaching Award, and in 2020, his dedication to community engagement was recognized with the Edith Rathbun Outreach and Engagement Excellence Award.

A prolific researcher, Lipscomb has authored more than 55 articles, coauthored a book and secured six patents. His research, backed by substantial funding from entities that include the National Science Foundation and Nissan, has received recognition through prestigious awards such as The University of Toledo President's Award for Excellence in Grantsmanship and the College of Engineering Outstanding Research Award.

And as a testament to Lipscomb's impact as a faculty member, students continually praise his exceptional teaching, emphasizing his generous and personal attention and commitment to their success. In 2021, Lipscomb was named a Distinguished University Professor, solidifying his status as an influential educator and researcher.
