Conversations with Ambassador Creagan: Joaquín Castro & Alice Albright

The Conversations with Ambassador Creagan series, hosted by UIW's Lewis Center of the Americas and Department of Political Science, was initiated in February of 2023. The series offers the UIW community, as well as a broader general public, a unique opportunity to hear UIW's Ambassador in Residence, Dr. James F. Creagan, and his featured discussants converse about various topics in the realm of international affairs. The conversations are live streamed to make them accessible to a wider audience and allowing our Mexico campuses to connect.

The next instance of the series is taking place in collaboration with the World Affairs Council of San Antonio, and will feature U.S. Congressman Joaquín Castro along with Ms. Alice Albright, CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The MCC was created by Congress in January of 2004 with strong bipartisan support, and partners with the world's poorest countries that are committed to just and democratic governance, economic freedom and investing in their people. The MCC's efforts align with the international work that our U.S. Congressman and native San Antonian Joaquín Castro has advanced for many years, particularly as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee, and as the ranking member of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee.

Lewis Center Fellow Dr. Jim Creagan, will moderate the discussion, drawing on his decades of experience as a diplomat with the U.S. State Department. One of Dr. Creagan's senior posts included his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Honduras, during which he facilitate delivery of millions of dollars of U.S. aid to alleviate the catastrophic impacts of hurricane Mitch in 1998. His questions to Congressman Castro and Ms. Albright promise to spark an enlightening conversation about the importance of helping nations in need, and how this assistance is relevant at a local level in San Antonio.

The event will take place at the Seddon Recital Hall on UIW's main Broadway campus in San Antonio at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, May 3. To register please go to the event page of the World Affairs Council of San Antonio website. UIW students/staff and CCVI Sisters/staff can enter the code WAC2024! to have the registration fee waived.
