Quantity of collected milk still lower than last year
Registered purchasers collected more than 50,200 tonnes of cows' milk. This was 10.1% more than in February but 0.4% less than in March 2023.
Production up compared to a year ago, except drinking milk and butter
Dairies continue to increase the production of acidified milk. Compared to last March, it went up by almost 9%. They also produced almost 10% more cheese and almost 5% more cream, while they decreased the production of butter by more than 5% and of drinking milk by almost 3%.
At the monthly level increased production of all milk products
Compared to February, dairies increased the production of butter the most (by almost 16%). Cream production increased by almost 10%, and acidified milk and cheese production by around 9%. Drinking milk production increased by less than 3%.
Less cows' milk collected in the EU
In first two months of 2024, dairies in the EU collected 1.1% more cows' milk than the year before. Adjusted for leap year, however, EU cows' milk collection went down by 0.6%.
Higher production of dairy products in the EU in the first two months
Compared to January and February 2023, the
production of dairy products in the EU mostly increased. Dairies in the EU produced 8% more cream, more than 6% more acidified milk, almost 6% more cheese and almost 2% more drinking milk. On the other hand, the production of butter and of skimmed-milk powder went down by more than 4% each.
The price of raw milk slightly lower in February
The
price of raw milk in the EU decreased by 0.1% in February and amounted to EUR 0.464/kg. In March, too, a small decrease is expected.
