The Council is offering community grants for environmental projects and has opened a new emergency relief scheme to organisations working in the community.

Applications are now open until 17 May for the annual Environmental Levy Grants, which are funded by Ku-ring-gai's environmental levy.

There are two grant categories; Net Zero Communities grants for projects that reduce local energy, waste and transport emissions and Environmental Conservation grants to protect and enhance local bushland and wildlife.

Funding is open to individuals and community groups and will be awarded in the new financial year. Examples of past initiatives receiving funding include $5000 for cat enclosures to keep cats and wildlife safe;$1640 for school community composting; $3477 to run a solar information talk series, $2970 for regeneration of habitat for small birds and $5000 for monitoring wildlife hollows in trees..

The Council is also offering a new funding scheme called Emergency Relief Grants for organisations and groups working in the Ku-ring-gai area.

To apply organisations must demonstrate the following:

  • They are providing emergency relief to Ku-ring-gai residents experiencing financial hardship
  • They prioritise assistance to vulnerable residents
  • They are able to address immediate and urgent need
  • They ensure assistance is accessible to all eligible individuals

Mayor Sam Ngai said the emergency support grants would be used by organisations to provide food, pay utility bills and rental assistance for very vulnerable residents living locally.

"This new grant program demonstrates the Council's commitment to community wellbeing. We encourage all community groups to apply."

Applications for this funding close on Friday 31 May; for full details and to apply visit krg.nsw.gov.au/emergencyrelief
