CITY ATTORNEY ANNOUNCEMENT

Lewiston Mayor Daniel Johnson has extended a conditional offer of employment to current Assistant City Attorney Jennifer Tengono for the position of City Attorney for the City of Lewiston.

This decision follows the announcement by the current City Attorney, Kayla Hermann, who has accepted another position at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories. Kayla has been serving the City of Lewiston in the City Attorney's Office for eight years; initially hired as an Assistant City Attorney in 2016, she was appointed as City Attorney in 2022. Kayla's last day with the City will be May 20, 2024.

Jennifer Tengono is set to serve in the capacity of interim City Attorney until the City Council's regular meeting on June 10th. A majority vote of the City Council is required at that meeting to confirm her appointment as City Attorney.

Jennifer Tengono has been serving as one of two Assistant City Attorneys for the City of Lewiston since November 14, 2022. Her background includes a distinguished career, including service in the U.S. Army as a Counterintelligence Special Agent from 2004-2012.

Following her military service, Jennifer pursued her education in Criminal Justice Administration and worked as a Sheriff's Deputy for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department. She then attended the University of Idaho College of Law, where she graduated with her J.D., with an emphasis in Native American Law and Natural Resources and Environmental Law.

During law school, Jennifer completed legal internships with the Vice-Chair of the House Veterans Committee in Washington, D.C., the Nez Perce County Prosecutor's Office, and the Nez Perce Indian Tribe. After law school, she gained valuable experience working for Susan R. Wilson, Attorney at Law, where she served as the City Attorney for the cities of Troy and Deary.

Jennifer currently serves as the Treasurer for the Second District Bar Association and Vice-Chair for the Idaho Military Legal Alliance. She also volunteers with organizations such as the Washington Office of Military and Veteran Legal Assistance and the Idaho Military Legal Alliance, providing pro bono legal services and advice to veterans in need.
