Four Cook County Judges volunteer to conduct up to 50 weddings for Michigan Avenue event

Four Circuit Court of Cook County judges have volunteered to conduct up to 50 weddings for a closed-street celebration on Michigan Avenue at the Wrigley Building on Sunday, September 26.
The event, called "Marriages on the Mile - Weddings at Wrigley," is part of The Magnificent Mile Association's larger "Meet Me on the Mile" program for Sunday, which will include other activities throughout the day. Scheduled wedding ceremonies will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. outdoors beneath the Wrigley Building Bridge at 410 N. Michigan Avenue.
To participate in the event, more than 350 couples have submitted entries describing their relationships and why they want to get married at this iconic Chicago site. Winners were notified on September 1. The ceremonies are being performed at no cost to couples, other than the marriage license fee.
The Hon. Diann Marsalek, Acting Presiding Judge of Marriage Court and of the Traffic Division, said that she and three other judges volunteered for the Sunday ceremonies as a way to serve the public in a time when many marriages are being conducted either by Zoom or with limited numbers of witnesses due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"The judges participating in 'Marriages on the Mile' will provide a public service to couples by performing the marriage ceremony in a beautiful setting during challenging and restrictive times," Judge Marsalek said.
"These ceremonies will provide joy and happiness to many couples," Judge Marsalek said. "Additionally, family members and friends will have the opportunity to witness the marriage and share in the special day with the couple."
The three other judges who will be conducting ceremonies are the Hon. Melissa A. Durkin, the Hon. Judith C. Rice, and the Hon. Geri Pinzur Rosenberg.
