Helsinki supports Ukrainian city of Dnipro with donations, summer camps for children and youth

The new cooperation agreement between the cities of Helsinki and Dnipro has been arranged in order to offer concrete assistance to Dnipro, which has suffered severe losses in the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. The partnership also makes it possible to organise donations to the Ukrainian city.

The City of Helsinki has surveyed a wide array of materials and tools that would be suitable for donation to Dnipro. The scope of the donation that is currently pending a decision includes, among other things, free-standing furniture for classrooms and daycare centres, medical and trauma equipment, as well as various devices, vehicles, physiotherapy equipment, professional apparel and civil protection-related equipment. The Helsinki City Council is scheduled to decide on the donation on Monday, 26 February.

The materials will be assembled into an aid package and transported to Dnipro during the spring of 2024 through the EU's civil protection mechanism.

In summer 2024, children and young people from Dnipro will also be offered the opportunity to participate in summer camps in the Helsinki area. This camps will be organised by Helsinki's Youth Services and other camp organisers that work as partners with the city. The camps will enable Ukrainian children to take a break from the daily pressures of life in a war-torn country.

"I am very pleased about our new cooperation agreement with the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. Providing tangible help is an important part of Helsinki's strident efforts to support Ukraine. I hope that as many Ukrainian children and young people as possible will take advantage of the opportunity to participate in a summer camp in Finland," said Helsinki Mayor Juhana Vartiainen.
